Our Mission
The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters;  supplies nearly half of the nation's blood;  teaches lifesaving skills; provides international humanitarian aid;  and supports military members and their families.  The Red Cross is a charitable organization - not a government agency - and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.  For more information, please visit www.redcross.org or join our blog at http://blog.redcross.org.
Welcome!

Phyllis_Patterson.jpg

We had a special visitor stop by the Chapter House the other day.  Phyllis Patterson came by to donate a gift to the LaPorte County Red Cross.  Phyllis's husband, Glen, volunteered with the LaPorte County Chapter for many years.  He served on the board in the early '90's.  But here's the really cool part - over a span of more than 50 years, Glen had donated over 24 GALLONS of blood through the Red Cross blood drives!!  Phyllis lost Glen in 2008, but as a tribute to him and his lifetime of giving she took all of his blood donor and volunteer pins and made a memorial plaque.  It's really amazing to look at and one can't help but be moved by Glen's selfless giving.  If you find yourself in the Chapter House neighborhood, please stop in and take a look at this lovely tribute to a special person.   After spending time on display here, we will enter it into the Red Cross permanent archives.

We never had the privilege of meeting Glen, but if he's half as charming as Phyllis, he must have really been something!

Thank you Phyllis . . . and thank you Glen.
